REEVE

(NPC)

✹ The Reeve stands second only to His Majesty the King and serves as the supreme voice of the Crown in all matters of governance, war, and administration. The Reeve is entrusted with the full authority of the realm and speaks with the King’s power in the King’s stead. All officers of the Kingsmen, from the Justicar of War to the lowest ranks, owe their obedience to the Reeve, whose word carries the weight of royal command.

Though the Reeve relies upon the Justicar of War for guidance in matters of battle and the disposition of the host, the Reeve bears the right to assume command of the Kingsmen at any time. As with the King, the Reeve may take the field in person, directing Companies and Captains as the need of the realm demands. In times of peace, the Reeve oversees the governance and welfare of the realm. In times of war, the Reeve guides the strategy and purpose of the host, ensuring that the will of the Crown is carried out in full.

The Reeve’s station is one of great burden and trust. It is the Reeve who binds the affairs of war and state together, who receives the counsel of the Justicars, and who bears the responsibility for the conduct and direction of the Kingsmen as an instrument of the King’s will. ✹

Out of character, the Reeve is the Faction Lead NPC and the highest level of authority within the Kingsmen. This role oversees everything related to the management, organization, and direction of the faction. While the King exists as an in-character figure whose authority is above the Reeve in the story, the King is a narrative NPC. The Reeve is the top-level decision-maker for all faction matters outside of the story itself.

The Reeve is responsible for coordinating with Fell & Fair staff, setting expectations for the faction, approving or adjusting Company organization, and ensuring that the Kingsmen function smoothly both in and out of character. All major administrative decisions, faction policies, and structural adjustments pass through the Reeve. Captains and the Justicars may handle day-to-day or event-level organization, but the Reeve shapes the overall direction of the faction.

In practice, the Reeve performs all the duties that come with being the ultimate organizer and facilitator for the Kingsmen. This includes supervising the Justicar of War and the Captains, managing faction-wide planning, receiving player concerns when needed, and making final calls when issues arise. The Reeve ensures that the faction stays consistent with its identity and goals, that its members are supported, and that everything runs smoothly before, during, and after events.

The Reeve is the final out-of-character authority for the faction and serves as the anchor point for coordination, communication, and leadership across the entire Kingsmen structure.
