CAPTAIN

(Player)

✹ The Captain commands the Company, the largest regular formation within the Kingsmen. Each Company comprises three to five Platoons and serves as a unified force capable of undertaking significant operations. The Captain holds responsibility for the overall readiness, strength, and conduct of the Company. It is the Captain’s duty to issue orders to the Lieutenants, to guide the strategy and disposition of the Company in battle, and to uphold the standards of the Kingsmen in all things. Captains present their reports to the Justicar of War and receive the broader directives of the campaign. ✹

Captains are selected by Crown Command. They are responsible for the entire Company, both in-character and out-of-character. Out of character, this means that they are the primary organizer, coordinator, and planner for their Company before, during, and after the event. They handle the big-picture logistics and make sure their Lieutenants and Sergeants have what they need to support their people properly.

A Captain maintains the Company roster and keeps track of who is attending, which Platoon they belong to, who their Sergeant is, and any special considerations a player wants them to know about. Captains are not expected to ask about anyone’s personal matters. However, if a player voluntarily discloses health needs or limitations, they must make sure those needs are honored and passed along to the relevant leaders.

Captains handle the major logistics for the Company. This includes coordinating schedules, ensuring everyone knows where they’re supposed to be, managing meal expectations, tracking overall readiness, and making sure issues are handled quickly. They are also responsible for balancing their Platoons so workloads are even, and handling the administrative tasks that keep the Company functional.

The Captain’s role connects directly to Crown Command in character and out of character. In character, they receive and pass down orders. Out of character, they handle planning, communication, and any needed adjustments so that the Company experience is clear, organized, and enjoyable for all.

Captains are expected to maintain a thorough understanding of all Weekend Warrior rules, with particular emphasis on those that govern combat. As frontline leaders, they must be prepared to answer questions accurately whenever a player seeks clarification. This includes everything from weapon safety to armor requirements to battlefield conduct. A Captain who knows the rules well not only helps prevent confusion and unsafe situations, but also ensures that their Company operates smoothly and confidently. Captains should take time before the event to review the rules, stay updated on any changes, and be ready to guide their players with clarity and authority.

Captains should also have a strong grasp of the event’s history and lore, both for the Kingsmen and the world of Olaran as a whole. As leaders, they serve as touchstones for immersion, helping newer players understand the setting, the factions, and the ongoing narrative.

In short, the Captain is the top-level organizer for the Company. They don’t need to micromanage, but they do need to keep the whole picture in view. A good Captain communicates clearly, stays ahead of potential issues, supports their officers, and ensures every member of the Company has what they need to enjoy the event.
